Hush by eva-guy01 Hush by eva-guy01
Hush little baby, don't say a word
and never mind that noise you heard.
It's just the beast under your bed
in your closet, in your head.

~Kirk Hammet, Metallica, Enter Sandman

Even monsters need to sleep.

I noticed that all of Dream's fanarts in this community never depicted him wearing his "Helm of Office", or in other words, his helmet. And he does bring along a small bag of sand, as a formality.

Plus his helmet, or at least the design based on Gaiman's novel "Season of Mists" reminded me of a particular favorite monster of mine, so i thought of using it as the subject of Dream's nightly visits.

And what does it dream? How about Ripley on a stick?

My entry for Dream contest. Drawn with Mongol pencil #2 on sketchpad and rendered via Photoshop. Since it took me an accumulated 8 hours doing the sketch vs the one hour of photoshop, i believe it deserves the category Traditional artwork.

Not exactly sure but that looks so much like an alien that came out of the space jockey!

Nobody thinks about the poor alien working it's butt off endlessly shopping for hosts and not a thought for itself, only to serve ol' lazyass Queenie, - sigh!!!

Nice work :worship:

You're right, portraits of him and his helm are few and far between.
And you're right again wehn you spot the resemblance between him and a xenomorph. . .I dunno why I never quite saw it . . .
but yeah, excellent work, I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said.

that is an amazing drawing. I love the concept too, something I've thought about, but never actually been able to imagine in such full detail.

Thanks. :D Neways, i just added those lines from Enter Sandman because i imagined Morpheus whispering those words to the Alien as it sleeps, a sort of surreal lulluby.

:giggle: so awesome. you totally win for originality! can't wait to see what everyone's done for the contest. i'm still upset i missed the death one. took too long ot get accepted intot he club :pout:

i see the black/white has already been in discussion. since we don't know if daniel opted to keep the helm that works. of course, i'm a morpheus junkie ;) you know, just for fun, you could do it simply by selecting the robe and turning it inot a negative, then tweak the lighting.

such an awsome job on the helm.

So beyond awesome..! :aww: I  the helm, always have!
I also thought that it screamed "H. R. Giger!" I totally have to make this a favorite! I absolutely  it! (I'm a huge fan of Gaiman and Giger!)
I adore the contrast between the alien and Dream, the soft weblike cloak and the hard chiton shell...
One suggestion for you, (and it might just be the monitor I'm using, but) maybe an increase on the contrast a little between the alien's shell and Dream's cloak. Understandably, the Oneiroi (dreams) were said to have black wings and such, but I like the idea of the contrast between the paleness of the Dream and the darkness of the dreamer (if you get me :giggle:). Really though, it's only a modest suggestion, and that's all I could possibly nitpick about this lovely piece! :horns:

Thanks! It's constructive comments like yours that make me strive for better quality works. I didnt know the Oneiori was suppose to have black wings, and i did notice that Gaiman's version in Season of Mists was indeed darkblue/black. I made it ghostly white to increase the contrast between the Alien and Dream, thinking that Oneiori would have had white versions of the cloak. ^^

Yes, and i love Giger! He started the dark techno-sexual-horror genre. He's up there in my list of influencial artists, next to Mobieus. :D

Thanks again!

:aww: Yay! I was constructive! :giggle:
Hey, no prob, I'm a huge fan of Gaiman. I sort of fell in  with his work about five years ago, and I've slowly been looking more indepth to his ideas over the years. I figure with all of the allusions to classical and various other mythologies, it might be nice to know a little more about them than the basic public school edu-ma-cation provides.

Actually, I think it's important to note that you never mentioned that Dream was anyone else... And in the Sandman series, it's only ever Morpheus who appears wearing the black wings. ;)
Anywho, in case I didn't mention it before, I completely adore the mask, and I'm so glad someone did some fanart featuring it.:D r0x0r! :giggle:

Wow! Yes, it definitely belongs to traditional artwork! This is a really awesome concept! Who could have thought that aliens also dream... It's disturbing yet serene, dark but fanciful! :w00t:

I really like the alien's pose, so natural and so human... it really suggests that he's actually in the middle of a dream(or nightmare ;) ). His body language is so convincing!

The colors really suggest a "dreamy" mood with all the grays... really excellent work!
