Raz Sputnik Pulp Comics Parody

This piece was a mix of homage, parody, what if's and plain humor.

It all started in TAGCOM convention, where fellow DA artist Raz asked me to draw him as a cartoon. I drew a cartoony Johnny Bravo-ish version of him, then on a whim, made him into a retro-futuristic Flash Gordon cum Buck Rogers adventurer.

I gave the art to him of course, but the image lingered on. So just today i had the opportunity to spend an hour in the corner of the office cafeteria and started drawing Raz's alter ego.

Then soon enough i was inspired by the fact that i have not yet seen ANY form of Russian scifi pulp comic that was so prolific in the US during the Cold War and made a "What If?" scenario, like what if the 1960's Soviet Union actually allowed artists to express their freedom of ideas in comic book form. Naturally they might be inspired by their American counterparts and saw fit to have copied or parodied them.

And parodied I did, by combining all elements which led to the birth of the First Soviet Super Cosmonaut RAZ SPUTNIK!

Added with a bit of inspiration from Flesh Gordon [link] some bits of innuendo, like the Cyborg Virgin Women from Uranus. Yes folks, Raz is here to save Uranus! I had fun designing the Cyborg Virgins. I even threw in at the last minute Raz's real life best friend Berd in it so he wont be alone getting them virgins.

So there you have it, a collaboration of ideas that turned out pretty well in my book. Might even inspire me to make the actual comic but thats pretty much wishful thinking.
