After quite some time, i got in contact with some of my old former classmates from UP Fine Arts, the batch that predates my current batch by a year, whom I somewhat still left a lasting impression among them.

A number had landed in numerous ad agencies, both high and low profile. I was quite surprised at their reaction when they asked me what my new position in Teriyaki Boy was, which i answered that of Brand Marketing (i used to be designated as In-house artist, until they got one to replace me).

Some immediately reacted that my job was the kind of people they hated the most: Brand Supervisors/Representatives, those snively OC marketing peeps who just wont quit complaining about their artwork and would send them to Revision Hell.

Usually these Brand Marketing guys they meet are never artists to begin with so they treat them like know-it-alls with utter disdain and scorn.

So what about my position? A Brand Supervisor who actually knows what he's talking about?

Lol! Traitor is such a harsh word folks. Do a better job and i might just stop sending you ad agency artist guys to Hell. :D

Bastusan Na!! :analprobe:
haha I can honestly relate to those guys:XD: Back in my Advertising days in UST we always associated the snotty, sophisticated, think-they-know-it-all studes as the one who'll most likely end in Accounts(aka those who do all the socializing and partying) while we the common, under-appreciated, menial elbow-greasers will end up in Creative(aka those who do all the drawing and stuff) :lmao:
Ah those were dem days :XD:

Well I realized(much later then) that each person has his own skills and specialty, and each one also wishes that he had the skills of the other guy(sad, but natural). Some people have the capacity for more than one...

In other words, inggit lang sila :lmao:

I don't think I understand this yet... I think this is why I'm afraid to end up in an Ad Agency someday. I might just cry in one corner if I'm asked to do tons of revisions! Heheh. ^^;

But you know what you're doing, so if it's for the better, then it can't be that bad to send those artists to revision hell!

Uh. Oh. Now I'm confused!
And their designated leader will scream "This! Is! Creatives!!!" and kick me to the Bottomless Pit.

Haha i doubt it. I guess its just they're so used of the stereotype that when someone breaks it, it turns panicky without the usual back up response to it. :D

Ah well its usually like this in an Ad Agency.

The environment is seasonal, there are Rush Hours and there are Slack Time. You will encounter Rush Hours where your boss will expect you to produce an idea they made within 24 hours or so. When this happens, EXPECT revisions. A rushed work is done as a form of reproduced examples that will surely entice revisions from the client. "Para lang may mapapakita". This is a bad form of Creatives Management, in my opinion. But it usually happens with difficult and opinionated clients.

Major clients of popular brand products often have representatives looking over the project. They are often called Brand Reps. The Brand Rep's job is to make sure the Ad Agency will never accidentally warp, reposition, miscolor, abuse and even re-brand the logo or mascot of the product being promoted. They have a manual of strict guidelines to follow, and expects the Ad Agency to follow as well.

I admit, artists such as myself hate revisions. We want a project done as efficiently as possible so we can move on to the next project with a fresh mind. As the Brand Guy (as they call me here), I understand the situation artists go through so i make my instructions clear and even give advice on how to do it, until i am satisfied with the outcome. Its now really the Creative Director's management abilities that will determine whether you will go to Revision Hell or not.

Although i do hate artists who give me attitude. Sorry dude, you dont own the brand, we do. And we pay you to not screw up our image. Its one thing i learned as an artist in the company, is that you need to be professional about these things. :P
